Synopsis:
This movie is about the city of Paris, also known as the city of love. It shows stories of all sorts of love – partnership, family, friendship, pet love and so on, existing among several people from various cultures. Not only does it show stories of love, but also the challenges that love produces and its’ associated implications on human emotion, behaviour and thought. Consequently throughout the film, love is bent, broken, renewed, and reshaped in many ways.
Review:
I chose to review this movie because it taught me little life lessons. One scene that was salient to me was a troubled young woman, who in the end (of the movie) did not find her ‘true love’. However – she found love in herself. She learnt how to love herself. And I think you do need to learn to love yourself first before you can pass that love onto someone else.
Another eye-catching feature that I’d like to highlight is the film’s unusual feature – it is a compilation of multiple short films filmed in different districts of Paris – and because of this, the scenes, setting, context, characters etc. change frequently. Although this made keeping track of the story a little more difficult, it was good to see something out of the ordinary for once – (once you’ve established which characters were involved in which relationships – it was easier to follow on from there). Another technique that I liked was that it has a mixture of both raw and processed video (raw, meaning raw-hand held camera with no sound affects etc.). This effect made the film feel more realistic than ordinary movies.
